For centuries, the evil tarthii ruled Mount Tarthus, until the merging upset the balance of power. The weakest of them were stripped of their ability to fly by their brethren and cast from the mountain, forced to walk the earth with those they once viewed as prey. Forced to adapt in order to survive, they set aside the sins of their ancestors and began allying themselves with New Humans who did not hold the ancient prejudices of the Other Worlders. Now, the self-titled Broken-Winged walk the lands of men, eking out an existence where they can, and seeking to repair their broken pride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/path><\/svg><\/span> Physical Characteristics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Broken-Winged are tall, sleek humanoids with small wings and sharp talon-like hands and feet. Plumage often sprouts on the sides of their faces as well as their torsos, arms, and legs, matching the color of their wing’s plumage: typically, white, brown, or gold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/path><\/svg><\/span> Temperament<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

They are a tempestuous people, fueled by intense emotion. Without governance, these emotions often descend into cruelty and hatred, but decades of forced coexistence with humans have engendered a discipline known as ‘The Flight’. Broken-Winged who practice The Flight, while still temperamental and fiercely passionate, are able to channel emotion towards positive, constructive ends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/path><\/svg><\/span> Population Centers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Broken-Winged mostly reside in mid-to-large-sized urban centers filled with Earthers in North America and Europe. Within those urban centers, they tend to keep a low profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is believed their ancestral home of Mount Tarthus is located somewhere within the Carpathian Mountains. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Broken-Winged always feel out of place, I think. They belong in the sky they’ve been exiled from. Being low to the ground, especially outdoors, they appear to shrink in upon themselves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They fear smaller settlements, imagining a single Other Worlder could get them lynched. They’re most common in the cities with people like me – humans from Earth, but even then, they keep to themselves. Many try to live at some sort of height. Church lofts are popular. I suspect if bell towers were readily available pieces of real estate, the Broken-Winged would be all over them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then again, maybe I’m wrong. Maybe the sky terrifies them now that they cannot fly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/path><\/svg><\/span> Languages<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Broken-Winged speak either English or Spanish, as well as their native language, Tarthiian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their native language sounds similar to Romanian, though they don’t speak it often, perhaps as some sort of rebellion against the kin that exiled them. Most of them speak fluent English with a mild, vaguely European accent. I think it is out of necessity rather than anything else – they need<\/em> to blend in in order to survive. Also, I’ve met exactly one Spanish-speaking Broken-Winged, but she hinted that there was a collection of them living in wherever Spain landed on this planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first time you would suffer a mental status effect during an encounter (i.e. dazed, stunned, charmed), it instead has no effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
